Update: Moving to Move!

Hi friends!

Things have been moving so quickly—so many big changes—and we wanted to let you know the latest news about our move!

But first, a quick appreciation and thanks to Moya, Aaminah, Teukie, Mai’a, Bianca, China and Yolo for their tireless work on fundraising for us!!  I know yall are working so hard all the time and doing so much that we don’t see: running the chipin, book sale and etsy shop!  Thank you so much for the care and mindful thoughtfulness!  It means so much.  We could never do this without you!!  So much love!

And thank you to all the folks who have already given—amazing!!  So many of you have given your time, resources, sent us encouraging notes, started fundraising efforts, given money, passed on this tumblr to your friends, offered us ways to help get the word out, blogged about what we’re doing, connected us to some key folks, gave us heartfelt feedback, have helped us think through logistics, and lent more emotional support and love than we could have ever wished for.  Thank you for being part of our community and part of this dream!

Updates!  October has moved so fast, we have barely had time to keep up!

At the beginning of October, a generous friend offered that I could come and live at her house in Berkeley for as long as I needed so that I could continue looking for accessible places for Stacey and I, keep working, and not have to fly back and forth from Atlanta to the bay.  It seemed so perfect, but at the time I didn’t know if I could really make a cross-country move happen by the end of the month.  The first 2 weeks were a flurry of figuring out if this could actually work and thinking through logistics with friends and family.  But last week, the last big pieces finally fell into place, so (with the help of many, many good folks across the country) I will be moving to the bay on Oct 28th, driving in a Uhaul and getting there by Oct 31st.  whaaaaat???

I’ll be moving so that we can take the time required to find an accessible and affordable place for both of us, begin to pull together the careshift collective and look into getting wood/carpentry services donated for the ramp.  It is so much better than trying to cram looking for a place to live into short trips.  Once I find a place and get the access modifications done, then Stacey will move out. (i can’t wait!!)

This will also give us more time to fundraise to support the costly PA services Stacey will need in the time between when she applies in CA and gets approved for state PA services.

I am so excited this is working out—it makes so much more sense—and I am definitely feeling sad to leave Atlanta after 12+ years (more on that later).  Thank you all for being part of this journey with us and most importantly for your support!!  California or bust!

love love love,

mia
